Advent with Meister Eckhart Day 19

Posted by Simon Parke, 19 December 2020, 4.51am

‘And suddenly you know: It’s time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.’

Mary, Joseph, shepherds and wise men - they all had trouble with Bethlehem beginnings.

It was upheaval, physical and emotional.

As TS Eliot writes of the Magi,

‘A cold coming we had of it,
Just the worst time of the year
For a journey, and such a long journey:
The ways deep and the weather sharp,
The very dead of winter.’

It doesn’t always feel magic when something new begins.

Beginnings are often born in pain and chaos; its how and why things end.

But here is the untamed energy, the miracle of life: with something ended, something new begins.

And it comes to bless.

So, encouraged by Eckhart, we lean into trust this Advent; we allow fresh winds.

As something new arrives, we trust the magic of beginnings.

Suddenly you know.
