Advent with Meister Eckhart Day 3

We are all meant to be mothers of God…for God is always needing to be born.’

It’s a beautiful image; that in our life, in our actions, we are mothers of God, the creators of God on earth.

We all become Mary.

It was a shocking image for the church at the time, making God too vulnerable, too needy, as if somehow reliant on us, when he should be storming around needing no one.

It is also rather intimate; but here, Eckart had allies in the 14th century.

Julian of Norwich, seventy years later, wrote that between God and ourselves there is no in between.

So, of course, we are mothers of God, a deep partnership - and God is born daily through us.
