The cracks between our certainty

Posted by Simon Parke, 14 March 2017, 5.59am

It’s the second day of our Enneagram retreat and we’ll ponder this meditation today.

Ready?

It’s possible today that your certainties may run out for a moment.

Does this ever happen?

You’re busy being certain about one thing and then another thing and then suddenly…there’s a gap.

We might feel panic but there’s no need.

Sometimes in the gap, in those unfilled moments - if we resist distraction - a different voice is heard…faintly…

We try to avoid such moments.

We rush to fill them with activity, with some requirement, we text someone, ring someone, stick our head in a really interesting article.

But like cracks between the paving stones, these unfilled moments are the place where life can shift, where a truer voice can be heard…faintly…

There’s nothing to fear in the gaps between our certainties.

They need not be filled with the dull concrete of displacement activity…they’re allowed.

These gaps are where life may grow in you today
