How to use the meditations
1. Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed.
2. Read through the whole meditation a few times, then put it down.
3. Sit in a position both comfortable and alert.
4. Allow the meditation 10 minutes or so in your imagination. Do not give up before this time; stay with it.
5. Allow another 10 minutes for recording what happened. Allow events to develop as you record. |

MEDITATION 24
THE ONE THING
Gerard Hughes tells the story of his dog, who was a very happy dog with his bone.
Until one day, he was given another bone. So now he had two bones.
Was he twice as happy? No he was half as happy. He could never decide which bone to pick up fearing that if he picked up one, he'd miss out on the delights of the other.
Imagine
Imagine you are in life's restaurant, faced by a wonderful choice of food.
How do you feel about this place and this choice?
And do you see your favourites?
And then you are told that due to circumstances, you can only have one particular choice. No pick and mix just one dish.
How do you feel about this? How do you react?
And beyond the restaurant, if in life, you could have just one experience, what would it be?
What do you long for?
What's the one thing for you?
And what keeps you from it?
