the one minute mystic
How to use the meditations

1. Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed.

2. Read through the whole meditation a few times, then put it down.

3. Sit in a position both comfortable and alert.

4. Allow the meditation 10 minutes or so in your imagination. Do not give up before this time; stay with it.

5. Allow another 10 minutes for recording what happened. Allow events to develop as you record.
  MEDITATION 30
DOCTOR, DOCTOR

A man walks confidently into a doctor's surgery and sits down.

"What seems to be the problem?" asks the doctor.

"I want to be treated for my broken leg."

"Really?" says the GP, looking at the man's two healthy legs – but noticing a nasty gash in his head.

"Yes, I want to be treated for my broken leg."

"I see," says the doctor. "Could you just jog on the spot for thirty seconds?"

"Jog on the spot?" says the man. "Certainly!"

He does so, with some ease – and then sits down again.

"And you're sure you want to be treated for a broken leg?" asks the doctor.

"Definitely!" says the patient.

"But your leg isn't broken."

"Not broken? It's why I'm here, goddammit!"

"Mmmm," says the doctor pensively, looking at the blood pouring from the man's head. "Here's an idea. How about I treat you for what's really wrong with you?"

The patient thinks, and then slowly begins to nod his head: "Yes, I'm all for that," he says.

"Grand!" says the doctor. "I'll treat what's really wrong with you."

"Fine!" says the patient. "Fine. Just so long as what's really wrong with me is a broken leg."

Consider

Not only do we not know ourselves.

We don't know that we do not know ourselves.

We think it's all about this; when often it's all about that.

This means that when we come across someone who could help us, they may make no sense at all.

We insist it's this! And for some reason, they are talking about that.

Be cautious about your self-diagnosis today – and constantly surprised by who or what might help.
