Julian of Norwich retreat

14-18 October 2019
Sheldon Centre, Sheldon Lane, Doddiscombsleigh, Exeter EX6 7YT

Julian of Norwich was the first woman to write a book in English. She was also the most remarkable of the 14th century mystics, whose Revelations of Divine Love has only grown in substance down the centuries.

Thomas Merton named her, with Cardinal Newman, ‘the greatest English theologian’.

Julian was an anchorite who lived in a three-windowed cell for 40 years. On this retreat, in a contemplative spirit, we sit with Julian, listening both to the difficult times in which she lived; and to her life, her words and her optimistic soul.

Whether or not you are familiar with her story, I hope your encounter with Julian at Sheldon will be a fruitful meeting for you.

‘All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well.’
