Climate change

Today we ponder two different inner climates – the climate of threat and the climate of possibility.

I have known those who live almost entirely in the climate of threat. It might be people who threaten, or perhaps situations or the future.

There’s always threat, and therefore always fear.

To survive, the horizon must be scanned, plans put in place, walls erected and control maintained at all times.

It is both an exhausting climate to inhabit and the creator of much anxiety.

‘How can I not be anxious? Look at the threat!’

The climate of possibility looks and feels rather different.

Here fear is replaced by peace and control by freshness and anxiety by energy.

The climate of fear is disabling, exhausting. The climate of possibility, whatever our situation, enlivens and unfolds.

We can move between the two, this will be so; but if we find ourselves in the former, we’ll consider how we might leave rather than make it our home.

The climate of threat is a fake… and the climate possibility our truer home.
