Did no one tell the flowers?
Did the forget-me-not forget –
or did the memo pass it by?
It goes on being glorious
And there are some who wonder why
Did no one tell the flowers
The death toll rises every day?
The tulips sway with laughter
As do the bluebells, in their way
They clump themselves beside the road
A community of colour
While we put distance, obey the rules
We won’t go near another
And surely they should do the same
Our world collapses daily
I saw the primrose smiling
And the magnolia – well, words fail me
They sing amid the morning dew
The scent our evening hours
Lives dismantled – hope on hold
So did no one tell the flowers?
