Growing old

You called them your autumn years
A changing scene, the leaves once green are different – a different colour now
How seasons change, life rearrange, in give and take, in take and give
Time comes to say, ‘I’m on my way’

No spring time here, no summer’s lease
Though where it went and how, I couldn’t say
Burnt orange glow, and ruby red, it’s quite a show
A harvest kiss in autumn mist

Yet all I really want to do and all I want to say
They call it growing old, we’ll call it autumn gold
And celebrate another perfect day

We’ve felt the winds, we’ve loved the sun
We’ve danced in the breeze and in the cold
This tree so strong, where we belong until the day
When we let go, and fall, in winter snow

You called them your autumn years
A changing scene, the leaves once green are different – a different colour now
How seasons change, life rearrange, in give and take, in take and give
Time comes to say, ‘I’m on my way’

Yet all I really want to do and all I want to say
They call it growing old, we’ll call it autumn gold
And celebrate another perfect day
