What is mindfulness?

What is mindfulness?

Opening up the shop in the morning and turning the key, I am aware that I am opening up the shop in the morning and turning the key.

Looking at the clouds in their shifting patterns, I am aware that I am looking at the clouds in their shifting patterns.

Becoming irritated by the traffic jam and approaching the end of my tether, I am aware that I am becoming irritated by the traffic jam and approaching the end of my tether.

Feeling frightened by the uncertainty of world events, I am aware that I am feeling frightened by the uncertainty of world events.

Mindfulness is awareness of my present experience with acceptance.

So, it’s about awareness; the present and acceptance – a triangle (the strongest structure) of inner states each supporting the other.

It’s not complicated; in fact, it’s very simple…but simply demanding.

And being kidnapped by thoughts today and taken far from the present, I will notice I am being kidnapped by thoughts today and taken far from the present.

And gently, I will return myself there.

Mindfulness is always gentle with me.
